The Innovation Morning Coffee was opend by Ms Dorota Skwarek – Deputy Director of Department for Regional Policy who welcomed the participant and presented objectives of the meeting. Then Ms Anna Kępa gave a short overview of the TR3S project followed by a presentation on Regional Innovation Strategy of Lubelskie Voivodeship.

To provide a background for the discussion, Mr Korneliusz Pylak from Lublin University of Technology presented in details the topic of open innovation together with some examples which could be also implemented in the Lubelskie Region. Those examples included mainly cooperation and networks, co-opting and licenses creative commons. Mr Korneliusz Pylak focused also on advantages of open innovation such as creative thinking, building culture of trust, transferring knowledge and innovation. What’s more, open innovation is a great opportunity for companies, mainly because it gives not only a possibility to search the best ideas and solutions and to access innovators, but also it is a kind of an approach to cooperate within clusters and incubators.

Then, the participants were asked to present their experiences in the field of open innovation and to discuss some initiatives, common projects that could be taken up in our region, as well as problem that may occur when implementing open innovation solutions.

Conclusions:

The companies of the Lubelskie Region still develop their innovation potential by introducing new technologies. To make our companies more competitives, it would be necessary to strengthen the cooperation between them in order to generate innovative ideas and solve important problems. To achieve this goal, it is vital to engage scientists in this process.

When it comes to open innovation solution, it seems that in the Lubelskie Region a kind of an open-source platform providing ideas and solution to business could be established. Such an initiative could be taken up by a business support institution.
